Letters of protest, expensive licences, vendor lock-in, lack of control over data, slow innovation, few alternatives… Proprietary technology is in the hands of a few companies, so new software companies cannot compete on a level playing field. Users are not happy, but they have no alternative. The BIM software market is closed. But it can be opened up. It has been done before in other sectors, and it can be done in our industry.
